The last CD that I bought was:
Scot Project - A1
The lesson here is that you shouldn't put your mug on your CD covers in trendy sunglasses and 'modern' hair unless you are worthy.

Gianluigi,
I liked them, but that does not say much. You should audition them before buying. Adrian was not sure he liked Raccolto but I say that you have to do battle with (Stefano) Battglia and listen to his music numerous time before passing judgement.

Haim

Gianluigi - I do not have the stamina of Haim. I could hardly get through one listen the of the Raccolto CD and I son't want to do "battle" during moments of listening pleasure. I like a challenge though. Haim has listened 5/6 times at least.
There is so much superb music out there to play and nor enough hours in the day for me. Raccolto did not excite me and is now relegated to my keep beacuse I like the ECM artwork pile of CD's.
I will be interested to hear your opinion if you try it out.
Now if you want a good new ECM CD try the new one from Anouar Brahem - Le Voyage De Sahar.

Hi HR!
An audition would be the best, but record shops (i'd rather say record shop) here are like supermarkets: you pick up and leave!
Anyway still ECM is doing a very good job gathering very interesting musicians and new paths as well.
Quality and discovering.
A good way to go!
Cheers!

Hi Adrian!
Le Voyage De Sahar is in list to be one of my next purchases.
I'll put Raccolto on the sheet as well!
ECM catalogue, as many other labels, is very vast and, as you wrote, there's so little time to dedicate to!
As i wrote, in my answer to HR, shop here is not the kind you'd probably call a record shop.
Once there was one with 3 turntables and 2 cd player with respective listening booths and a large group of clients/friends.
But the owner suddenly died and we missed a friend and a good source.
Some of the last things i've got are: Soir, dit-elle by Trio Mediaeval, Messe Noir by Alexei Lubimov and the beautiful Beethoven's Piano Sonatas played by Andras Schiff.
I'm waiting for the postman to bring me J.S.Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo played by Gidon Kremer and Shubert's C major Fantasies played by Schiff as well.
Just a question: have you ever got something by the label OPUS111?
I have Schubert D 894 & 960 played by Sokolov and think it's a great performance.
Did you listen to something else?
Thanks a lot!
Gianluigi

Gianluigi Shalom,
Do not take me too seriously. I am just playing with words: 'Battaglia' and 'doing battle' (and do not forget the movie: 'The Battle of Algiers'). The music of Battaglia is challenging but I enjoy it, especially the first disc with the cello which I like a lot. You can listen to some tracks here:

Perhaps you will convince Adrian to give it a second listen.

I'll try, then!
But now please tell me.
Did you listen to Paul Motian Band - Garden of Eden?
I was about to order it, but maybe someone can give me some lines to refer to!
Thanks the both of you!

Gianluigi,
It is great to have another ECM fan round here and I see you like the jazz as well as the New Series stuff. I have most of those CD's you have mentioned. I have nothing on Opus though.
I have Paul Motian Garden of Eden. I do not like it a lot. It is not as good as his last and I have read a number of 3 star reviews for it that I agree with - average.
In my opinion, unless you are an ECM completionist or a big Paul Motian fan there are better CD's out there.
Cheers
Adrian

Thanks Adrian!
I do remember when the first ECM titles reached our town.
Starting from about 1980.
1984 new series started a new age in music and those times were so exciting with that special atmosphere coming from different impulses.
Jazz, fusion, african music, english rock, dark poets, first step of a kind of neo folk, first electronic, classical resumption and a lot of small labels coming on!
Music, music, music.

Gianluigi,
This is the only Opus 111 that I have, that I like and that I am listening to right now:
Faure / Overtures for piano & cello / Peter Bruns, violincelle & Roglit Ishay, piano.
The sound of the disc is warm and open and the playing is very good.
If you are getting into ECMs, why don't you ask Adrian who is the master of all ECMs to draw a list of 10-20-30 of what he thinks are the best discs, so you can check them out on your own time.
Regards,
Haim

Hi Haim!
You've already done!
Instead............thanks for link to JPC.
I like sites when you can make yourself an idea, even sometimes far, of what you're about to get.
I do repeat that those short MP3 can be very far from the truth, but.........better than nothing at all.
Thanks a lot again!

An album i consider one of those soldering points, we find along the road, between classical and modern.
Tech atmosphere, large new cities by night and a spread of fast black and white frames.
A kind of evolution perhaps?
Insen, by Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Not a everyday music piece, but something to play in those "sometimes" we call the moments with no wind and direction.

On An Island, David Gilmour; kind of a family album of an album; he's obviously got the Floyd out of his system. It's a completely uncommercial* mood album, no rockers, lyrical meditations on love, his wife & children and a general feel of contentment (artwork inside is derived from photos of a Greek island family holiday). His guitar solos even have a relaxed, first-take vibe.
It's up to Roger now to be miserable!
*I just looked the album up on Amazon.com and, amazingly, it's #1 in sales at the moment!
