Neko Case 'Fox Confessor Brings The Flood'. Petentious title, decent songs, terrible production with vocal ruined by the reverb knob turned up to max.

A triple-buy:

Liars - Drum's not dead. Hmmm... some songs sound really good and some... don't.
The Concretes - In Colour. Really good on the first and second listen. Hope they won't fade.
Donald Fagen - Morph the cat. Pretty boring stuff really. But I am determined to give him a shot so I will try to listen to him some more.

I am really poor at writing reviews, so I will not try Smile Just to say I had not heard of Jenny Lewis or any songs by Rilo Kiley, but the Jenny Lewis CD was recommend on anther forum (KT Tunstall).

I really like the album even her cover version of Handle With Care is very good and i dont normally like coverd songs.Since I got the album I have bought tickets to her gig at the Lowry in Manchester so it must sound fine to me.

I think the Jenny Lewis is pretty good, her voice is a very splendid thing although a few songs are a little 'slight'. Try also Mark Lanegan/Isobel Campbell:Ballad of The Broken Seas, which is better still. Has a similar gospel/country feel although a bit darker.

Vittorio Grigolo " In the hands of love". I actually bought this for my wife but after hearing it I think he has a stunning voice and being a young talent I look forward to more albums in the future.

Whiteflyer-tell me about the Rilo Kiley. I've 'More Adventurous' and 'Execution Of All Things' but thought the latter was a bit weak which stopped me going further back. I do like 'Rabbit Fur Coat' though.

Recent purchases with mixed results.

Toumani Diabate Symmetric Orchestra; 'Boulevard D'Independence'. Good upbeat stuff. Bit like Orchestre Baobab.

Josh Rouse: 'Subtitulo'. Short, sweet and mellow but a bit forgettable.

Belle And Sebastian: 'The Life Pursuit'. First foray into B+S and seems fine. Any suggestion for what next?

Calexico: 'Garden Ruin'. Pretty different to what has gone before, excellent at times, but patchy really. The rockier tracks are fine but some tracks sound very AOR and the dusty border-country sound has all but gone. It is improving with familiarity but still a bit of a let down.

Willard Grant Conspiracy: 'Let it Roll'. The last album is still a huge favourite of mine but despite trying really hard to like it this one still sounds like a stinker. Plodding, predictable acoustic tracks and raucous unimaginative rockouts. 2 or 3 tracks at most remind you of why you loved 'Regard The End'. I'm gutted.

Bruce

Can I suggest we do our best on this thread to write a bit of a review rather than just posting a list, especially of new music. It makes the thread far more useful for people (like me) who like to stretch their horizons with new stuff.

I loved Nashville and played it at my weding as 'background music'. Subtitulo gets a stinker of a review in the new and much improved Uncut.......... I'm still away to see him in Newcastle in May tho..Regards

Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto. Two VPO soloists, VPO, Munchinger on Decca. I have failed to find a really satisfactory performance of this, and I hope that this performance is fine. I got it a week ago, and loaned it away even before playing it, due to a conversation about the classics with a heavy metal loving friend! I refered him to the slow movement as a top starting point with the classical style! I hope I was right.

The coupling is the two Flute Concertos.

Anyhow, I am still hoping that it gets the music right. Fredrik
