This week a bit of a splurge

Thom Yorke: Eraser. Still not sure about this one.

Horse Stories: Everyone's a Photographer. Which I'm pretty sure I do not like!

Mojave 3: Puzzles Like You. Less dreamy than before, rockier and actually rather good.

Sufjan Stevens: Avalance
A collection of outtakes and 'B' sides from the Illinoise album. Far better than that description would make you think, Stuffed with ideas and some lovely moments.

Rush remastered series: 2112 and Farewell to Kings - just as good as I remembered from 20+ years ago. £5 each.

Oakenfeld: A Lively Mind - excellent versions of great tracks - starting with Faster Kill Pussycat. Well worth the £10 I paid at Fopp in Leamington.

Chemical Bros: the one with Hey Girl on it - big disapointment: Come With Us is streets ahead.

ROTF, I knew you'd like the news Smile

I checked out the songs on the website before proceeding('Shropshire lad' I've already played often). It's going to be a challenge to understand the words, being a bloody foreigner and all that. Wish they'd been written out. Not used to listening to lyrics, really.

Nigel Blackwell doesn't publish his lyrics as he thinks it is better for listeners to work them out for themselves. I wish he would change his mind too.

My favourite verse from Achtung Bono is from Upon Westminster Bridge

"'Christ that sun's hot!' Yes, that's right, sir.
Oh help me, Mrs Medlicott I don't know what to do!
I've only got three bullets and there's four of Motley Crue..."

He has a point of course. The work of filling in the gaps creates its own involvement. I had a brief exchange along that line with Fredrik Fiske about possible value of lofi representation/music that is absent in hifi representation (he disagreed completely, I'm not sure yet..).

Amongst the downloadables there was a surprising "Dead men don't need season's tickets". Surprising because of the sudden realisation that he was being serious.

Which brings to mind:

'I'm off to see the Bootleg Beatles
As the bootleg Mark Chapman'

one of my favourite HMHB lyrics (out of many contenders):

'Opinionated weather forecasters telling me it's going to be a miserable day. Miserable to who? I quite like a bit of drizzle, so stick to the facts'.

Dead Men Don't Need Season Tickets is one of my favourite songs on the excellent Voyage To The Bottom Of The Road. Nigel is an ardent Tranmere Rovers supporter and once famously missed the chance to appear on The Tube (a music programme on TV) because Tranmere were playing at home and he thought he might miss the match.

Have you got these HMHB flash movies?

Nipped into HMV in Kingston today. Picked up all 3 Syd Barrett albums on CD, along with a Chess doublle gatefold of the best of Bo Diddley, and Delaney and Bonnie and Frinds "Together". They had a lot of stuff at very reduced prices.
