The best of Mantronix - classic acidic electro
Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to hold us back - still probably the best LP hip hop has produced
V/A - the revenge of King Jammy's Super Power All Stars Volume 2 - classic eighties dancehall

Thanks - definitely one to investigate. The only recording I know of Loreena McKennitt is The Visit and I always thought it excellent.

Just ordered using www.find-cd.co.uk, marvellous. Think I ended up ordering it from HMV for less than a fiver Smile

Brings back memories of buying their first 7" of harmonious feedback.

Mindy Smith "Long Island Shores" - The sophomore effort from this excellent vocalist/songwriter, this time very well supported by Buddy Miller on several songs (Buddy is best known for his work with Emmylou Harris, his duo work with his wife, and many Nashville session jobs). This MS disc has been a grower for me, less immediatlely accessible compared to her debut. But with repeated listens I have grown to like it very much, notwithstanding the more overt faith-based lyrics. Recommended, particularly to purchasers of her debut.

Pete Yorn "Nightcrawler" - Follow-up to his popular "musicforthemorningafter". Again, if you liked the debut, there are nuggets here to enjoy but I will need more time to determine how much repeat listening this will get.

Lindsey Buckingham "Under The Skin" - If you liked Out Of The Cradle, his '92 solo effort, then this new one is a must-have. I think of it as very similar to OOTC but more acoustic guitar-based compared to the electric work on OOTC. Layers and layers of guitar sound and that wonderfully distinctive LB style - his work is immediately identifiable without being "the same". Highly recommended.

A couple music DVDs

"A Musicares Person Of The Year Tribute Honoring James Taylor" - a wonderful show, filmed during the week of the '06 Grammys, with JT's band fronted by numerous guests doing JT songs - India.Arie, Dixie Chicks, Alison Krauss, Bonnie Raitt, and others, Particularly stunning solo performance by Bruce Springsteen of "Millworker" and for me, the real eye- opener, Keith Urban doing "Country Road" ....

which has led me to more Keith Urban

his music DVD "Livin' Right Now", a live performance from Los Angeles

his back catalogue and

his new CD "Love Pain and The Whole Crazy Thing" - I am very impressed by the work of KU. Very good songwriter, excellent vocalist (if you don't mind the 'twang) and, unexpected to me, a wonderful guitar player. If you like John Mayer, KU is the Nasville-by-way-of-Down-Under equivalent. KU music is my current obsession.

good listenin'

I've just got Sandi Thom's record. Perhaps surprisingly for 'young person's music' (!!) it's very good.
