This is great - very impressed. NOt only stunning musically, but a well recorded CD too.
Coming soon to join it is Awkward Annie the new offering from Kate Rusby.
It's the old year that ends with 7 thing - brings out the best in the artists I like.

Sound of Music One:
JS Bach: Toccata and Fugue in D Minor
Concerto in D Minor, Vavaldi/Bach
Concerto in A Minor, Vivaldi/Bach [Allegro only]Mozart Smal Night Music, [1st mov't only]
Bach Badinerie from Second Suite
Albinoni Adagio
D. Scarlatti Sonata in D Minor
Piazola "Libertango," and "Oblivion!"
Sound of Music Two:
Fantasy and Fugue in C Minor, Bach
Concerto in F Minor, "Winter," Vivaldi,
and First mov't from "Spring," with the Presto from "Summer."
Rossini Figaro Aria
Flight of the Bumble Bee
Albeniz, Astoria
Mozart, Turkish March
Sabre Dance [quaintly called Dens with Solds]
V Semyonov, Sonata No 1, Finale only
M Orginski, "Polonaise."
All played on two accordians by Vitaliy Klemenko and Aleksander Drach but with a double bass in the Sabre Dance.
I bought these last Thursday in Krakow, having just heard these two young Poles play with a third player supporting the bass-line in the huge Medieval Old Square there. They brought people to rapt silence with their efforts...
This is the most inspired Bach playing I have ever heard, even from the great names. Muscular, and tender - so full of life. The performances really make one wonder what acoordians can possibly do! But more to the point there is music dripping off these performances. Live, alive, electrifying, and presenting the muscular tension and tender release that is so much the essense of this music.
Tremendous. ATB from George
PS: You would have to catch them busking! Necessary to visit Krakow for that I would guess. There is no contact detail at all on the dics, but the content is priceless. So often these old Warhorse pieces are performed in a stilted or kitsch sort of way. Here the music making is imaginative, passionate [very muscular and not always quite beautiful in the sense of sonority], and startlingly direct, as well as incredibly stylish! Either they are intuitive musicians of the first rank or real scholars. A bit of both I reckon...

Richard Hawley: Lady's Bridge
Marvellous, lush and sweet without being sentimental. Has just a whiff of Lambchop about it (or it may be me). Exceptional-must buy Cole's corner now I think.

A friend played me this the other day. I thought the arrangements were to die for, but the songs were everything I loathed about Tom Jones and Englebert in their chicken-in-a-basket days. In the end I begged for mercy! :-)

Just taken delivery and it's living up to expectations! A nice alternative to my Brendel recordings, especially in Années de pèlerinage where Brendel sounds a bit scruffy and not altogether poetic. Bolet is superb.
