I'm having to cut back on my spending this year (lack of work) and so try to choose carefully. But I still went and bought Indiana Jones: The Soundtracks Collection (5 CD set) - my latest purchase. After one play each of the four scores I ask myself why.

Still, if I hadn't bought the collection I would keep wondering shall I buy or not; and at least it wasn't expensive.

Blitzen Trapper: Furr. Which is really rather brilliant, Handsome Family meets indie rock, with a whiff of psychedelia too perhaps?

Blind Pilots:3 Rounds and a Sound.

Bowerbirds: Hymns For A Dark Horse.

Death Cab For Cutie: Narrow Stairs.

Bombazine Black Here Their Dreams. (Not a misspelling.)

Bon Iver For Emma Forever Ago. Why did I ignore this for so long?

A splurge informed by this forum, and the NPR All songs podcast. A great batch of new buys that have really refreshed my listening!

Bruce, I'd about the same experience with the here quoted records.

Blitzen Trapper made a very good varied album with a personal sound.

The Bon Iver record is often mentioned in this forum and had lots of positivereviews. So last week I tried this album again in the shop and it appears addictive...

Bon Iver - "For Emma - Forever Ago"

This record is incontrovertible evidence that music is independent of "sound quality". I don't mean to disparage this record in any way - it is far from "hi-fi" but honest and overflowing with emotion. It is musical. Does the CD accurately reproduce the sound that was present at the time of recording? Who knows? - but that's not the point.

Highly recommended.
