SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS : Alpinisms (2008)
Paul-I've heard a track or two from the School of Seven Bells album. How are you liking it?
Bruce
For me its difficult to explain in words.
I love this record with its particular sound with some electronics and nice singing of identical twin sisters.
Amazon writes: Alpinism is an electronically enhanced pop record of dizzying highs and claustrophobic lows, whose painstaking conception shows in its detail-laden crevices.
Pitchfork writes: Throughout Alpinisms, the group finds a perfect middle ground between the indie realms of tribal and choral, layering electronic flourishes without letting them overwhelm the arrangements.
Lost at Sea writes: Spacey, ambient, and vaguely tribal, Alpinisms creates a landscape to get lost in. Despite their differing musical backgrounds, the band has a cohesive sound.
So, this is not common stuff. Try before you buy....

DEATH LETTERS : Death Letters
Myspace writes:
"The Death Letters is a Dutch two-piece band from the city of Dordrecht consisting of Victor (16 years old, playing drums) and Duende (17, guitar/vocals).
The band offers an overwhelming mixture of Rock with mainly Punk and Blues influences but their music also consists of elements from Hard Rock, Pop and Country. Influences come from acts as diverse as The Black Keys, The Datsuns, John Lee Hooker, Son House, Hank Williams and John Frusciante to name just a few."
I hear The White Stripes too. Remarkable good sound from these young boys.

THE PHANTOM BAND : Checkmate Savage (Glasgow 2009)
Early 2009 some said Animal Collective already had made one of the best 2009 pop records.
This debut album gets the same positive qualifications.
Music is very good. Production is super !

(Isn't Amazon Marketplace a great idea! One of these CDs I've bought recently were as cheap as 80p and nothing more than £2-£3. Even with £1.20 p&p it's still good value)

Tonto's Expanding Headband!
It has taken me an age and then some to locate a copy but perseverance and all that and the great man himself, Malcolm Cecil, sends me an email.....it arrived today and I have just got back from work. I suspect it is going to be a long night. I have the LP but have not had a record deck for about 15 years. Absence makes the heart grow fonder....

Emmy The Great- "First Love"
(Rough Trade Album of the Week at this moment in time)
Felt quite emotional after so many years of just MySpace demos and 7" singles actually holding an real CD with real jewel case and real booklet from ETG.
If you buy from Rough Trade, you get an extra exclusive live acoustic CD as well.
