Streaming Audio
Following a number of positive posts regarding Chromecast Audio I decided to buy it and give it a go. Reasoning was I wanted a simple streamlining solution, primarily to locally stream downloaded (lossless/hi-res) music stored on my PC to the hi-fi. Previously I had copied downloads onto a USB to play through the nDac/XPSDR. So set up is PC to nDAC via Ipad, using Chromecast Audio, with music being accessed via Plex Media Server. I have to say that I am impressed with the sound quality, but...
I use I-Radio and Tidal on SU via WiFi. I heard that there is more proper way to use cable instead of WiFi. If it is really, which cable would be recommendable for SU instead of WiFi ? Would anybody advice, please ? Jiri
I've just signed up for the Tidal free trial and been impressed with the SQ (via my NDX) and ease of use. I was on the verge of throwing away my NAS (!) but after about a week's listening I've found that many of my favourite albums are missing. For example, there are 22 Keith Jarrett albums, but not the massive-selling classic "The Köln Concert". Presumably Tidal's inability to strike a licensing deal with ECM Records? Or two Gillian Welch albums but no "Time (The Revelator)". What gives?
I usually use the IOS app for controlling my UnitiServ(US) but last night I was playing some music and working on my computer so fired up the Naim Desktop Client. Use this for some management services but had never used it before to control playback ... ... navigated through my collection ok and started an album playing ... but dam it - I couldn't find anywhere to stop the playing! I had to go back to my IOS NServ app to stop playing so I could get to bed :) ... I know I could have just left...
I can by a "WD® My Cloud Mirror" for a low price of 299 Euro. (with 2 x T included) is this a good Nas to complete a uniti Star or Nova or Atom?
I need your advice ... I'm currently enjoying the SuperUniti, but .... Upon the release of the new Uniti series, I've had a chat with my dealer about changing the SuperUniti with the new Uniti Nova. However, somehow, there are other alternatives and since he has a second hand NAP 200 (non DR) I wonder if any of you compared the SuperUniti with a NAC-C 272 + NAP 200. Please note that I'm not able to stretch to NAP 250DR within 2 years ... Any thoughts would be appreciated ...
I still have fond memories of my first introduction into streaming music which was ndac/555ps and unitiserve. I made the progression to the NDS/55ps, but do remember the juicy bass of the ndac/555ps. i understand the conventional wisdom regarding upgrading the nds is via dual 555PS's. Has anyone had the opportunity to do try NDS, 555PS with digital out to an NDAC and 555PS. Is it possible and would this be an upgrade? Thanks for your help.
My router feeds down to a Netgear switch and from then onward to everything else. Every three days or so the wired network goes down. Wireless is fine. Unplugging and restarting the switch gets everything running again, but a few days later it drops down again. Any reasons? Obviously it's easy to replace the cheap switch, but the failure mode seems odd - I'd expect it to be a complete and terminal failure.
Yes, I know, this question has been asked many times before (with a notable absence of responses from anyone associated with Naim). But, really, is there no way to control my HDX from my Samsung Galaxy S7?
As the pending new Naim app is now out amongst some forum members for beta testing, just wondering if there is an official release date yet? Plus, what changes can we expect? A conservative or radical redesign? Is it faster / more responsive (can be a little slow on my iPhone 5S)? As someone who has only recently started using an iPad with my ‘Qute (when I can get my hands on it from other family members!), it really has transformed the process of controlling playback, especially the ‘notes’...
I have been happily using a headless Mac Mini for my ripped CDS, this is accessed by a Sonos Connect and then into the 552 via an Arcam Sonlink dac. I have a 555 which is definitely underused and only used when an unripped CD has to be "urgently" played. This method is OK for me as the term "user friendliness" does not really bother me as I rip the CDs initially on a Mac Pro and then use iTunes Home share to copy the data to the Mac Mini. However other people find this process unacceptable I...
Hi All, This is my first post here. I've been a Naim fan for some years dating back since the days of the Olive series. I got myself a UQ2 + Nap100 some 2+ years ago and i have been enjoying it since. Recently the display panel on my UQ2 has dimmed out to a level that is barely visible in normal lighting condition, only visible in darkness when the room light is switch off. Have any of UQ2 owners here experienced this? My thoughts are for the display panel to dim out of fade in 2+ years is...
I have a NDX with twonky as the UNPN software. Ever since I updated to the latest version of the IOS Ipad app the app keeps loosing the NDX. Get a message saying 'streamer not responding/found' - the app then proceeds to present a blank screen with no streamer to select. This tends to happened when you forward tracks or move around playlists. It's made the NDX practically unusable via the app. Anyone else seen this? Any suggestions?
I recently connected the digital out connection of my NDS to DAC-V1, to use the latter as a headphone amp. I was banging my head off the wall for a long time, because I couldn't get it to work. Eventually I realised that the digital output of the NDS is set to 'Off' by default. Presumably, this is for sonic reasons. Anyone know what kind of degradation arises from switching the digital output on? ,
I have the Naim app for the iPad which I am now getting rid of as I have the Windows Surface Pro, slick piece of kit. So where can I download the app for Windows to control my Naim system? Many thanks in advance Toby Tarczy
Hello everybody, I would to know if it's possible to configure the naim muso without the application (by the internal web site for exemple)? If not, perhaps in a futur update (it's maybe a dream ) Thanks,
Hopefully this is just an oversight (from the naim website for the new naim-app): "Controls Naim Audio streaming products: Mu-so , Mu-so Qb , NDS , NDX , ND5 XS , NAC-N 172 XS and all Uniti all-in-one players " Or will the 272 get its own elite app?
Morning, need some help on some tech issues please at present my NDX is connected to my router - NAS via x 2 devolo plugs and net gear GS105 switches which has worked nicely or a couple of years - ITS time for them to go (depending in cost) i am looking to get my system directly wired from router via cables through to NDX - could i have some advise or experiences from members on cables - pit falls - my house is about 30 years old with the BT router in one of the front bedrooms which I use as...
Calling all Superuniti owners; has anyone noticed low volume WiFi interference, RF noise, on their Superuniti speakers, you'll have to listen close up to the speakers as it's quite low, and obviously with no source playing. Sounds a bit like morse code, but noise rather than tones. Definitely not on the Superuniti's output as volume does not vary with the SU's volume control and continues if the SU's amplifier setting is set to external, so assume is being picked up by the speaker cables -...
Hello, The titel already reveals my question. I am currently using my Qute into my NAC202 (with hicap&napsc) /NAP200 combination. I am selling my Qute, and looking for a replacement streamer. The NDX is too expensive, and my choice would be the ND5-XS. But now we have also the 272, which then could replace all these boxes. Would i make a step back? I like reducing the amount of boxes, but that is not too much of an issue. Anybody an idea? Regards, Ronald
Odd one this but the mu-so has twice now suddenly started up at full volume playing music on Spotify that I don't use. Any ideas the wi if is secure ?!! Posting at 0530 as it's just happened
Over the last week or so, my mu-so, used for music and TV sound bar in the lounge, has begun suddenly cutting out and the entire unit flashes and the indicator light on the side flashes red. Nothing in my setup has changed in the last 6 months and the muso is wired to the apple time capsule n-router . I also have a qb in the kitchen which is behaving normally. I've tried resetting it a couple of times via the hole, and downgraded the firmware, but nothing works for longer than about an hour...
I was thinking of getting a unitiserve there's a 2008 2nd hand one that would suit my needs would this just connect to my 202 and run it from android app and a portable hdd or would it recognize Cd's that I have ripped to a PC. Or is it likelyto need a NAS or something like that to rip cd's to and control from there? As my existing Densen Beat+ has died and thinking of streaming options and would my collection of Cd's ripped with unitiserve sound better ? is there a dac in the unitiserve.
What if for some unthinkable, shameful reason, like a non-NAIM streamer, you wanted to gain access to the cd rips in a Music Store. Can you convert the music store to .wav files?
I think I will start a 'Dead UnitServes Society'. Qualification criteria: Have or have owned a US US has died at least once As a founding member I will set an entry bar high: 3rd failure within 1 year. The last one was 3 months ago and tonight - it never starterd after a holiday shutdown. Adam PS. Off to my dealer tomorrow - this time I will request a new unit.
