Streaming Audio
I know this is a risky subject title from a general perspective but anyone know what is wrong with the BBC iRadio stations at the moment? - unlistenable this morning.
It's Spring of 2016, and cloud storage prices are really coming down. Amazon (at least for US customers...haven't checked otherwise) has an unlimited data cloud storage plan for $69 / year now. Is anyone going this route? Previously I've been happy to store backups on USB drives which I can keep at home, and a set elsewhere. The latest QNAP operating system supports cloud backup, but not yet the Amazon program :( It supports Google, but that's $10 / tb / month. Still amazingly inexpensive,...
I have taken a revisit to Qobuz after getting some HiRes deals online as purchases. Their sublime subscription looks interesting. Good discounts on HiRes purchases plus HiRes streaming. The app streams and offlines all my purchases and Melco streams these pretty well as a test, so I am thinking on overall value that for its £220 per year subs I get up to 24bit streaming, offline of purchases for playing in car etc, ownership of 24bit albums to purchase and keep. I can see the value if I am...
I have a Qnap TS412 turbo NAS, with two drives in Raid 1 mirrored configuration. I have today noticed a flashing red status light and a red light above drive 2. Qnap Finder states the NAS is in degraded mode and there is a message against drive 2 that there is a read/write error. This all points to a drive failure of the mirrored drive 2. Can still play music so drive 1 looks ok. I have several offsite back ups of the drag and drop variety so I am not panicking. However, this is the first...
Hi, my NDS started last week with the above, stopping iRadio or Melco and instead "input etc" over and over again, making it impossible play any kind of music no matter what source I tried. Q: what's going on, time to send the NDS for service? Any input appreciated. //Jonas
Hi guys. I bought a Qb last Friday, and most of the time, I LOVE it. it's perfect in the dining room, providing room-filling sound while being an unobtrusive but super cool box in the corner. For context, there's a Uniti2 in the study and a Uniti Qute in the kitchen, so multi-rooming these three is a big objective here. All seemed to go well on initial set-up but since then the Qb seems to forget the network when left alone for a few hours, and I have to reset it using the pinhole wifi...
When a 24 bit ALAC album starts to play, or sometimes in between tracks, the streamer makes a digital "scratching" sound. it has has started since the last firmware update or one of the synology updates. I don't know what the source of the problem is. Does anyone have an idea?
Would just like to say "many thanks" to all who have replied to my query re the user manual. I have now downloaded a copy.
Earlier this week, I switched off my Uniti and Unitiserve to allow the carpet cleaner to safely move my Quadraspire rack. Having switched everything back on, these two devices still play nicely. However, in the kitchen I have a Muso which is fine playing iRadio (so the network connection must be ok) but won't play UPNP front the Unitiserve. In tthe Naim app on my iPad I see: Connecting One track was added Touching the bottom of the screen to go to the play queue, the time bar shows 00:00 at...
Is there a downloadable user manual for this app.?
This morning I received an e-mail from BT pushing their HomePlug (EoP). I also made an enquiry this week about a TV/Sport package & was told the standard engineers install kit includes these things. ......... NO I'm not !!! Does anyone know what the latest is on these things? I think most peeps on the forum say they pollute your house & nearby neighbourhood mains power & introduce noise into your audio. OK, this all may be true, but is it based on the situation as it was with EoP...
My HDX SSD will not boot, it remains blocked with the message "Starting …" I can’t see it with the Desktop Client, the iPad or the Set IP Tool. I dont’t use Wifi. I don’t use static adress in the HDX. I tried to boot without another devices on the network (only the HDX was plugged into the router). I tried to boot without ethernet, and plugged on the router after the network search message. Perhaps is it a corruption of the adress IP, i don’t now. I tried to connect the HDX directly to my PC...
My only experience of streaming over WiFi with Naim kit has been with the Qb in the Kitchen. My Uniti and a couple of original Mu-so units have been directly connected via Ethernet. So I have been musing on the 48kHz maximum limit over WiFi noted in the Mu-so manual. I did not really see how this could be imposed if it was a hard limit. Earlier today, I decided to renew my network monitoring skills and managed to capture UPnP network traffic while the Qb, connected over WiFi, requested and...
Hi all, Naim sure have been busy of late. I was wondering have things settled down on any further updates albeit firmware or app updates. I know the beta testers have also been busy but even that seems quite quite. Are we all now happy?
So while troubleshooting a problem which surfaced after installing a new modem, I was on the phone to my local dealer.. and with several windows open on my Mac accidentally deleted my "shared music" folder on my Synology NAS, instead of the "Music Shares" folder on my SSD.. I desperately searched for the un-delete command in the DS assistant app' and unless you configure a safety net function, it doesn't exist! I tried pulling the 2 disks (which I have configured in RAID 1 mirror format)...
I have a uniti 2 with Kudos x2 and chord epic. I may look to add a powerline. Before I trial one I'm interested in anyone's experience of the PL with the U2. Many thanks
Just saw my NDX display says Streamer Update please wait. is this normal? My NDX is already updated to latest firmware. I didn't even initialize the update process. Got back from swimming then this is what I see
Hi Am playing flags from my synology was to my muso and every so often i jet an album that won't play - any ideas. All files are either ripped by me or downloaded. Thanks Tony
... That moment when you notice the smart transparent Mu-so base reveals all those cables you thought were well hidden
Yesterday my QNAP HS-251 NAS Drive arrived. I've connected it directly to my router using both supplied ethernet cables. But despite this, it keeps dropping out of the network. I know the network is working fine as I'm able to connect to the internet with no problems via my desktop PC, mobile 'phone and iPad. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks in advance. Lanesra
I have borrowed a unitiserve from a friend for a few days. I have plugged it into my network switch but it doesnt show on the naim app nor the sky router. I tried refreshing the devices list on the router but it doesnt show and ive tried restarting the nds, but this makes no difference either. Ive looked in the instructions and it says that from the factory its set to connect to any network, but once used you need to contact your dealer for help. I would love to try it in my system but I...
Hola muchachos I now have a car that takes an SD card for music replay and so I've been busily putting fave choons onto the card. The sound IMO is bloody good. To my utter astonishment, I yesterday heard an instrument on Ziggy Stardust that I've simply not heard before. I love the album, so this was a real surprise. Long / short - I think I need to investigate hard drive systems. I currently use a CDX2.2 or LP12 - what kit would I need for this? I am totally new to this field, so treat me...
Hi all, I'd be grateful if the experienced could please share their thoughts as to the best external NAS drives to use with Naim steamers? I'm coming around to the idea that streaming music may be the better option for me long term, using a Naim device (unit to be decided) and of course consolidate my data storage. I'm assuming that Synology and Qnap are the market leaders, if so which models? And are there other manufacturers to consider - LaCie, Netgear etc? Also, I'd ideally something...
Just looking to overhaul an old NAS setup. Currently, I have one 6TB WD Red holding my entire ripped 10,000+ CD collection backed up to an external WD 6TB drive. If I go down the QNAP route (Not interested in RAID) should I get the TS 251 - 2 enclosure version and just add another say 4TB or 6TB WD Red giving me 10TB or 12TB in all which should last me a life time. With 8GB of RAM running on Minimserver? Does this sound right (not sure I need the QNAP 451 four enclosure)? Also, just not sure...
Apologies for this turning the first post in this topic into a blog post but it is intended to be useful to others needing to stream to Naim gear in a location where directly connected ethernet is not feasible. Please share your own experiences of similar situations or setups I have chosen to start a new thread for those challenged, or potentially challenged, by the issues raised in streaming to a Naim system, such as the new Qb, placed in a location where directly wired ethernet is not...
