Streaming Audio
My music collection is stored on a Synology NAS that is connected to a UnitiServe-SSD. Can I backup everything (both CD Rips made via the Serve and downloads) to a portable drive like the WD My Passport, which is a USB connected drive? If so, do I connect the My Passport drive to the Serve and schedule the backup via the DTC or do I have to do it via the NAS? Apologies if these may appear to be stupid questions, but the info provided by Naim is minimal to say...
Hi - recently I have been unable to initialize and tune my connection to iRadio. My presets never tune and when I press list I don't get a list of iRadio stations. I have a relatively fast internet connection (35mb/s down and 4mb/s up) and UPNP streaming from my NAS is fine. I have a wired network too..... Help appreciated.... Cheers Jonathan ps: recently added a serviced NAP250 and very happy so far.....
The dialogue I had with Naim technical support on this subject might interest a wider audience. See e-mails below. I think it's a pity that nDac doesn't offer this possibility, because, despite having been announced as "The First S/PDIF Jitter-Free DAC", nDac sounds evidently better whan receiving audio from USB connections in comparison to (bit-transparent) S/PDIF connections. Peter Dimpflmeier < pedimp@gmail.com > Jan 6 to mbx_Sales I have a Naim DAC (serial number 290173) updated to...
I've received a lot of tips and suggestions to improve my set-up for low level listening. Budget is tight so I would like to get some comments on the following --> I keep my Pioneer N50 and add the Ndac with a view to replace the N50 in 12 months or do I sell (if I can) the N50 and get the ND5XS? Cheers!
anyone using an AE to extend wireless network for streaming with Qute 2? I can't run Ethernet where Qute is being used. Is AE the best option for me or are there better options for me?
Earlier today my Tidal desktop app updated to the latest version. When I view the stream quality settings there's an option I haven't seen before called 'Master': Normal High HiFi Master When selecting it the toast notification says streaming will be at LOSSLESS_HD quality from the next playback. Presumably this is the MQA update that Tidal have promised subject to agreement with the record labels. I wonder when we'll get a firmware update for our streamers.
http://www.monoandstereo.com/2016/02/trax-audio-sacd-extractor.html Can one rip SACDs now and what kind of gear does it take? Or is this still not possible because of the drm stuff they build in? ralf
I was wondering if anyone can help. I recently upgraded for streaming into my 552/500 from a UnitiQute2 to an NDX, but it does not seem to be able to “see” the Unitiserve. I never had any problems with the ‘Qute, so am not sure why the NDX won’t find it: is there a difference in the settings? I can’t see anything in either the Unitiserve or NDX reference manuals. The NDX is connected to the Network router OK because it’s getting Internet radio with no problems. The Unitiserve is connected OK...
Hi I am a recent subscriber to the Tidal Premium service (I cannot afford the HiFi subscription) but I am unable to stream any files from Tidal through my UnitiLite. I can browse the Tidal service using the Naim App but when I attempt to play a track the system reports 'Can't play. Skipped track'. Surely Nami's implementation of Tidal does not force you to have the more expensive (like double the price) subscription. I'd much rather use Tidal than Spotify which I abandoned sometime ago.
My n-Stream app (nd5xs) has always constantly frozen when trying to scroll on ipad. Sometime a slow swipe results in a scroll; sometimes not. And then it scrolls seconds later. Tapping on tracks sometimes needs many taps of a different nature until it finally actions. Same for play/pause - sometimes works immediately; sometimes works a few seconds later. It's like slooow wifi. Tearing my hair out. I downloaded the Kinsky app and absolutely no issues at all so it's not the iPad or the...
The powers that be in Naim must be tired of all the clamouring for various additions and then there is a huge amount of moaning about the quality or the cost or both. Although I am the owner of a uniqute and a superuniti I have never fully embraced the streaming paradigm using a squeezebox touch on my main system just to give it that functionality and have firmly stuck to CDs as my main source. Without over egging it however Roon does just feel right. It has...
Hi I have an issue with album art not being visible for some albums in the album view. The art shows if you select an album, and in the playing view, just not in the album view where you see the thumbnails. A folder symbol is displayed as if there were no album art file. Looking at the jpeg files I can see that the ones which are not visible have a higher pixel density that those which are visible. Are there recommended specs for the album art files for the naim app or is...
Is gapless playback available on Muso and SuperUniti? If so how do I enable it?
Can I connect Muso using both wireless and wired at the same time? I find internet radio works best using wireless but streaming using wired. How can I tell if Muso is connected to a wireless network and which one? (I have an extender so 2 networks).
So, I have now setup my QNAP NAS TS251+ with 2 X WD Red 4TB drives running in raid 1. I have chosen to use MinimServer as my UPnP server. My question: How do I set the NAS/MinimServer to transcode on the fly? Do I need to do this from the NAS control panel, MinimServer etc? Many thanks as always
Hello, I'm looking to expand my hi-fi system and add a 2nd system in the kitchen/diner. I already have a Naim system (NDX, Supernait 2 and KEF speakers) in a dedicated listening room with a wired connection to the NAS drive. I've come up with the following 3 options for my 2nd system: Option 1: Unitiqute 2 with KEF LS50 speakers (I would be buying these second hand and saving in the region of £500-£600 in total off the list price). Option 2: Mu-so Option 3: Resurrect my old 25yr old hi-fi...
Has anybody come across this one? Since the change of URL for Radio 3 from the BBC I find that I can no longer include it in a playlist in Foobar. In order for it to run, I have to invoke it from a browser each time. Once it is in Foobar, it will remain 'sticky' for a while but if you come back to it the following day, it waffles some comment about timing out. Has anybody any idea as to what is happening here and, if so, how do I make it permanent in a playlist.
Left my Superuniti plugged in in Spotify volume in 0% (paused). While I was away from home the amp suddently blasted my speakers at 100%. Luckily I had someone at home (who jumped to the ceiling ) otherwise speakers would have fried. Has this happened to someone else.? It happened when i got in the car and switched Spotify from superuniti to car . It would be really good that in this Spotify mode the volume would be limited as you can configure (I have 50%)...
Is there a difference in SQ between ethernet cables cat6 and cat7 ? My dealer wants me to buy cat7, claiming they are much better, I think it's Nordost.
Hi to all, I was wondering how long it takes to rip a cd taking into account sending it to a Nas if that's what you do. My reason for asking is today I ripped a couple of CD's and it took around fifteen minutes to rip two CDs and send them to my Nas and then I had to re- scan my Nas so my streamer could see the files which took around fifteen minutes. The cds were each around fifty minutes long and I'm using dBPoweramp ripping as FLAC. When sending the files to my Netgear ReadyNAS I...
Hello, I've been finding that my NDX is refusing to play some of my albums that are on my NAS drive. Some of them play absolutely fine while with others the NDX display states it can't connect. I can't remember if I've ever attempted to play these albums on the NDX before so I can't be certain that the problem has existed since they were first ripped or whether it is a new problem The other odd thing is I can play these albums fine on my SONOS system. Anyone with any ideas/suggestions?
Inspired by the FLAC 24/HiRes post - I am currently in the fortunate (or not so fortunate position) of re-ripping all my CDs into lossless versions (The days of expensive storage and max compression are a thing of the past). I've chosen FLAC because it supports tagging better and enables me to view compilations how I want to see them, BUT . . . for those of you who have been doing this for a number of years, if you had your time again, what (if anything) would you do differently to...
I am running Logitech Media Server (aka Squeezebox) on a Raspberry Pi. Apart from the proprietary protocols it also provides UPnP access. Does anyone know why it can be accessed / controlled using the Naim app but doesn't appear as a UPnP source on the front panel of a NaimUniti? Thanks
After the total loss of service for about three hours today, I am struggling to regain all my streaming services. Spotify seems okay although I have had a few droputs, but Tidal simply does not want to open at all. Any advice welcome
Would this be a side step or upgrade. My amp is the nait5i which is connected to the Logitech sbt with dynaudio speakers. Would selling the above and changing to the uq2 be a sound move? Cheers
