Streaming Audio

The review is in hificritic.com. Never seen this publication before. It's site shows the contents page but the actual full issue is upwards of £17. That's because they aren't financed by ads. They also say their quaterly has as much in as 3 issues of the monthlies and so compares on price. I would buy it if I was about to spend on stuff but Ive done a lot of spending recently and no major purchases planned or needed. Anyone buy hificritic and prepared to give a summary of the review?

Hi all, I had some questions about flash drives and their ability to be used outside the context of my Naim main system. I do have a Naim Uniti Core with a good number of ripped cds stored on its internal drive. I would like to copy/drag a number of the songs for use in my car or on a dealers rig who may not have Naim components. Has anyone done this? What are the considerations given that my drive and its songs have been formatted by the Core; in Wave; and NTFS? Thanks for any ideas

I have been a very happy Qobuz Sublime subscriber for the last couple of years. It now looks like Qobuz no longer offer Sublime, only the expensive Sublime+. They are now offering “Studio” for high res streaming but no mention of discounted downloads. My subscription is up for renewal at the end of the month and will be most dischuffed if I cannot stay on Sublime. Any one with further info on this?

I must be dumb so I need some help. I have signed up to Tidal but don't know how to play on my NDS or Qute. I have version 4.6 installed on the streamers and 2.6 installed on the phone and tablet. I can get the stream playing on these but can't see how to connect to the Naim streamers. Many thanks John

Hello, I'm experiencing the following problem with DAC V1 playback - after launching an album/song the sound disappears after 30 seconds more or less. After that I can't launch another song. When I switch the V1 off and on I can play for another 30 something seconds and than again the sound disappears. If I didn't switch off I can't start another playback. I have a Uniti Nova and tried to pair a mobile phone or laptop with bluetooth. Everything worked, however when i turned the bluetooth off on both naim and phone, everytime I turn on the Nova it shows no bluetooth device connected, strange because the option to search for devices is off from the application... I have just updated my iphone to the latest operating system: 12.0.1, then synched it with the computer. It now still recognises .aif music files but rejects all .aiff files, which is somewhat regrettable to put it mildly. The few old cds that I ripped with itunes saved the files as .aif The 98+ % that I ripped with dBPoweramp or XLD saved files as .aiff . Hi it is a while since anything has been posted ..... I want to use a 5N2 for streaming to NDS - I use windows for folder structures .... I am interested if anybody has recent practical experience.

I'm in a position where I'm being offered a Unitilite at a very reasonable price. I already have a Nait XS2 and CD5 so don't require amplification or CD replay however I am interested in tapping into the Uniti for streaming. However I'm a bit fuzzy on how to do this and if doing so will use the pre amp in the Uniti or in my XS? Can anyone shed some light. Naturally an ND5XS would be a great option but this is not on the cards for the time being because of cost.

after some help from computer savvy peeps here please. I’ve run out of ports on my but home hub5 so I’ve bought a used Cisco 2960 switch. It’s been reset but I’m not sure how I connect it into my system. I currently have Uniti nova, zen mini, tv , bt vision box into home hub 5 do I simply connect the Cisco from port 1 to the home hub then everything else in to switch in any of the other 23 ports.? Do I nee to connect to computer to set up or is it plug n play? help!

Help....... We have a house in the Spanish Pyrenees without broadband. The acoustics in the living room are amazing. It’s a large, narrow, high ceilinged room. Currently we use some Harmen Kardon Bluetooth soundsticks & bluetooth high ish res(256mps) music from iPad to the soundsticks. We also use internet radio(tune in) from our phone. Hi all, new software for the ND555, just updating by choosing that option? No, not in this case. Tried several times, it starts up the “installing” stays there for a while and then nothing... Any advices? Stable internet for years (optical fibre all the way) but after trying to update without any success, the ND555 now have some very short stops maybe every third song using Tidal. I have a question regarding the naim unitiserve I have a dac (non naim) with optical in and I noticed that the unitiserve has optical out could I use the unitiserve with a non naim dac?

All, I've owned my NDX for 20 months and have only ever used it for CD rips on my unitiserve and occasional radio. I guess I'm missing out on it's capabilities and I'm thinking of dipping my toes into 192/24 files(not that I'm an expert but I believe CD is only 16 bit). I have been streaming music for less than a week now - thru Tidal on the 3 month free trial. Overall excellent quality via a 272. On my system there seems to be a significant quality difference between music from the 70s and earlier Versus contemporary music. Reproduction of new music is, not surprisingly, much slicker and more defined - of course the quality of the recording equipment and media is much higher today, and the old tapes have often degraded or lost something as they have been...

I recall there have been some previous forum posts discussing difficulties using the slider volume control in the Naim app. I just noticed the latest version of the Google Home app now includes a full-screen, rotary volume control that works with my Uniti Atom (see screenshot). Hi, I have an ND5-XS in my main listening room. In the kitchen we have a Marantz unit (M-CR610) with built in streamer (plus CD and DAB which we use). Both of them can see my ripped music running from Minim server on a Synology NAS. I can use Tidal on both, either via the Naim app or via airplay (not version 2) from an iPad. Since firmware updates severely degrade the sound (IMO) and now completely break spotify, I steer well clear until I hear other peoples experience with them. So, when my atom stopped connecting to spotify yesterday, I checked the app to make sure nothing funny had gone on with the firmware, and sure enough, it's apparently up to date.
