Streaming Audio

Hello everybody, I am thinking about getting a Mac Mini as a multimedia PC for my living room. My initial idea was to use the mini only as a upnp server but then I thought, why not using iTunes with Amarra via the optical digital output of the mac mini? All my CDs are ripped with XLD in AIFF. Do you think that there are any differences (pos/neg) in sound (when comparing the exact same AIFF file)?? I know about the general restrictions of the optical out, but they don´t matter at the moment.
