Streaming Audio

Hi. I am wondering if any of you have this issue and can advise me my next course of action. Recently, my NDS is failing to show up on my Naim app. I have to turn off my NDS and restart my ipad or phone (not just restart the app) for it to be recognized again. It doesn't happen all the time, it's intermittent and happens every few days. Before I approach the distributor, I would like some feedback if anyone has experienced something similar. My app and NDS are updated to the latest version...

Hope this is the right forum for this question. I recently updated the firmware on my Unitiserve to 1.7b. I am using the n-serve app on my MacBook Air, version 1.4. I thought I might also need to update the app but when I look in the app store that is the latest version for Mac users. The app works fine to play my music but when I go to the Maintenance option and choose "Backup Scheduler" the screen won't display properly. It shows the outline of the scheduler but most of the field is empty...

Hi, I'm thinking of getting a HDX, but wanted to check if it would be possible to download hi-res audio directly onto it without the need of a computer interface. The other option to spend less money on an Astell & Kern recorder - but while they do sound good, I'm sure it won't be better than a HDX. Or maybe Hi-Res on an A&K will sound just as good as CD quality recording on the HDX. Any ideas/thoughts gratefully received. Thanks Best wishes Amer

I'm considering switching my Windows10 PC-based Asset streaming for a QNAP HS251+ - a much simpler, smaller footprint solution! The QNAP 'only' has 2GB of RAM. Anyone think this is a problem? I have something like 1700 albums ripped, but streaming isn't my main source. I'd also use it to store photos (that wouldn't add much to any memory overhead). Apologies in advance for a novice question: I am trialing Tidal and am looking to understand a bit more about how it works. My system is connected to a pretty basic DAC via Airplay. The DAC itself (Arcam AirDAC) is wired to my router/fibre connection. When I play tracks via the Tidal App on my iPad. Is the FLAC/ALAC stream going to the Airport DAC via my iPad (using ~WIFI), or does the App “handoff” in some way to the wired AIrport DAC (for a more reliable connection)? The alternative would...

I'd like to know what other (non-Naim) streamers forum members have seen or heard that could be considered worthy front ends for a Naim preamp (such as a 282). This would include both wireless and hard-wired possibilities...and not looking to necessarily land in the NDX level, as that would be too costly for me.

a 6 + year old mac mini goes to black screen after updating. Very helpful apple support - full restore etc seems to work then it wants an update and it black screens again My options seem to be -another mac mini -to take it in for a local repair but its getting older now I suppose add a cheaper nas and use an existing sonos connect through the dac v1 - great software vortebox about £500 into dac v1 - I'd stated to look into this any bright ideas please?

I’ve just had a very interesting couple of days evaluating a Chord Sarum Super Aray Ethernet cable in my system. My objective was to see if it improved on my Audioquest Vodka which runs from a switch in the wall behind my HiFi and feeds my NDS. After a day of switching back and forth I concluded that whilst the SSA made the Vodka sound relatively coarse and fruity, it just didn’t move me and the music simply wasn’t as entertaining with SSA in place. I have searched and found a few queries but no solution. I just want to have a list of all my albums so i dont buy duplicates when out shopping. Its would basically be an alphabetical list of all the folders in the UnityCore but i am at a loss on how to do it. I have tried exporting from my backup drive using mp3tag or TagScanner but just get gobblydygook. Does anyone have a simple solution or indeed could Naim provide that function ?

Bearing in mind I don't use UPnP etc, so apologies if I get anything mixed up here, and I do realise that people have work-arounds for Qobuz, but for those interested in using with Qobuz and their Naim streamers in a simple way, it looks like a solution could be in the making. On the Windows desktop App you can now stream to devices over UPnP. I have just bought a Unitilite. Very impressed so far. I use it in a garden room which has Ethernet connection to a computer and the Unitilite but has no WiFi. When I try to use Tidal (I have a subscription) it says “use Naim app”. Can I download the app to my PC so that I can control the unitilite by the computer? I assume the Naim app on my iPad needs to connect by WiFi to the unitilite- am I right?

i was playing an playlist (selfmade) from tidal. After an hour the picture of a song was frozen on my screen. My atom works normal but the picture stay the same. Tv, radio, other playlist: every tame the same same picture on screen. ?

This may seem like a stupid question to you, but if it works it looks like a relatively cheap way of getting a good sound with upgrade possibilities...

Does anyone else have this firmware update? I have just got back my NDS which was returned to Naim to repair the display, and their paperwork noted that the firmware had been updated to the above. My dealer was unaware of its availability.

Hi there, I have newly set up an NDX and registered with the Tidal Service using the NAIM iOS App. I chose the Twitter option to authenticate. Nevertheless: When I open Tidal in the Naim App I prompted for my Tidal Password, when I give my Twitter credentials it refuses to login. Using the very same Twitter credentials on Tidal.com works without a problem. Hi some people are advocating .... converting flac to native wav ....... so that on the fly processing is not being used ........ it is proposed on the fly processing has an impact on sound quality ......... are there any views here???? Most of my flacs are ripped without any compression - does this obviate decoding totally???

having trouble with my server staying connected to my network (hardwired). It drops out almost as soon as any music stops. Just wondering if I should turn off when not using to allow to cool down. I’ve always thought that naim products should be left on. We have had a hot summer (sorry), the server does seem to get quite warm at times and the only way to reconnect is rebooting.
