Streaming Audio

I currently have audio quest cinnamon Ethernet cables going from my TPLink SG-105 5 port Gigabit Switch to my UnitiServe and to my N272. I think that is fine but I often wonder whether I should be looking to enhance the quality of the Ethernet cable that runs from my router to the switch. It is bog standard Cat5E cable from Maplin and cost a fiver for a 10m run. Before the wall socket there is another 5m run of the same cable to the router in the room below my listening room. I have about 300 live cdr's I burned myself from my own live recordings. As expected they all rip in the music store as "Album_20170320_005410" with a different catalog number on each cdr rip. The Uniti Core will NOT let me edit these to the right name and track names in Windows Exployer (Downloads folder I can do anything). I have a QNAP NAS (Asset) exclusively for serving music to my NDX and I have a Netgear NAS for general duties such as Time Machine backups for all our MAC kit, a photo repository, document archives and the like. Each NAS has its own USB backup drive and backup schedules. I can't help but think that this is a waste of resources .. the QNAP could effectively handle the whole workload leaving the Netgear as the backup resource for the QNAP. I'm just a tad leery about putting all my eggs in one...

i received the 2960 switch today. After 2/3 hours run, vs my netgear gs105/tp ps, i can say that generally there is a little improvement on dynamics, decay and edge of drums and percussions. But the netgear /tp ps is a little nicier sounding, more soft and less forward, but not enough to say i prefer it , perhaps on some tracks.

I'm running the latest version, (5.6) on my iPad, and am finding that, once an album has finished playing, if I leave the app on "standby" and don't select the next album more or less straight away, it drops the connection to my HDX, which is acting as UPnP server to my NDS. I'm trying to update my Uniti's 3.9 Firmware to 4.4/Western Europe. I am getting a communication fault. The message reads......... "A communication fault occurred while reprogramming the ARM processor. Please check all connections. If this fault persists, please contact NAIM Support." I've clicked Retry twice and it failed after 9% (twice) and 7%. I am using a very good 250Mb connection. The Uniti screen says, "Firmware Upgrade. Do not switch off." Any ideas? Thanks. D.

Hi, what's showing in my QNap TS212P NAS drive at folder level seems to be different to what I see in Minimserver. I've tried refreshing Minimserver, but it doesn't seem to fix it. Can anyone tell me why this might be? Could the two drives on the NAS be picking up different things? And if so, how to I sync them onto one drive? (I've tried posting this on the QNap forum, but have had no replies). Also, I might need to get someone in to look at my system and check everything out to make sure...

Continuing my quest to find out whether a change of DAC can assist me with certain aspects of my system that I would like to change. I now know the answer to that question is YES. i read recently an article of jason kennedy in the ear magazine. He writes about the ways to improve streaming audio. He recommends cad audio ground control and also mcru linear power supply for router and switch. I have already tested entreq audio on my preamp and was not convinced : the sound was clearer but less life. But maybe linear ps for router and switch, not very expensive ( 235 pounds) , can put off noise of switch mode ps that are on routers and give also quietness to switches...

I have owned a HDX for a while now, and have only used it for ripping CD's onto the external SSD. I am now an avid user of Apple Music and want to stream this music through the HDX. I haven't purchased the music - it's just downloaded onto my iPhone and iMac and MacBook. I have no idea how to make this happen ? I hope I don't ned to buy a separate streamer after spending so much on my core system including Naim speakers and amp and pre-amp. Please help !

I bought a Uniti Core after an in-home demo. I had/have a synology and have a 10TB Western Digital drive in the core. I moved the Synology to a different room and use it for backup. Via the coax digital into the NAC-N 272 it is startlingly better than UPnP. I have even in casual listening stopped in my tracks and re-listened to what I was hearing because I was hearing parts of the music I had never heard before. Overall really like the device. Have a few issues - wish the NAIM app was better...

Hello, fellow audiophile! I bought a Uniti Core with an internal WD red, 8tb drive and installaed with no issues at all. Indeed, the external USB drive (Porsche Design P'9233 8TB) won't start the formatting procedure. I tried all the format kind, but none of them work. The formatting procedure simply hangs and doesn't go forward. The drive on a pc or mac works like a charm. An 2tb external hard drive work on the Uniti Core Have anyone else tried an 8tb external hard drive? Support from Naim...

My digital front end is sounding the best it has ever done ....after a LOT of tuning. But, there are aspects of it that I would like to change. It could be that this is simply down to the source files or other parts of my system, but I thought I'd borrow one of these 'DAC of the moment' to compare with my Bel Canto 3.5 vbs. R2R vs DS. Just updated the firmware on my QNAP NAS and discovered that there were a lot of "media" and other default apps running in the background, none of which I actually needed as I just use the NAS for storing and streaming music. So I disabled the unused apps and was surprised that this resulted in a noticeable improvement in sound quality. Be interested to know if anyone has had a similar experience.

Did you have issues with Minimwatch finding the server? I have a QNAP running Minim. It works fine with the Naim app and Naim streamer. I just can't get Minimwatch to link up with the Qnap on my laptop. The Minimwatch icon on my laptop is gray and I can't change any settings. All I want to do is have Minim transcode to WAV. Thanks in advance for any input
