Streaming Audio
Since my iPad updated its operating system I can't use the naim IOS app anymore - it can't see my NDS. Anybody know how to fix this? My android tablet still works fine. I have rebooted everything (modem/router, unitiserve, NDS) and reinstalled the naim app on the ipad to little effect. Thanks.
Hi all. My new NDX is sounding wonderful, but the drops outs when streaming Tidal tiresome. I'm using a brand new BT Home Hub 5, wifi connection to the NDX. Will a hard wired connection help? Keen to get any feedback before I start drilling holes all over the place. Interestingly, my old NDX didn't suffer with this. That was wifi connected too albeit to an older Home hub 3. Had to change the 3 because it was unreliable with all our other tech at home thanks in advance
Hi fellow Naim friends :) I am upgrading my NAC 272+ NAP 250DR to music server+streamer+separate DAC (Schiit Yggdrasil)+NAC 252 + SC DR + NAP 250 DR. Spotify Connect is really important to me because Spotify will probably turn Hi Res at some point. As you know, one of the benefits is that my NAC 272 supports Spotify Connect. I am looking to upgrade to this: - music server --> Naim NAC 272 as streamer via RJ45 Streamer slot (or if I sell the NAC272, I would use a Bluesound Node 2 which...
Hi, is it possible to bypass the preamp of the NAC272 to get into a NAC252 as preamp? Thanks!
Ok, I am now equipped with 2 new WD red drives. Time, I think, for a NAS upgrade (from my current Synology DS212+). I am thinking QNAP so I can run Asset. The TS-253A looks ok, right? 4GB or 8GB version? (Amazon says it's a 2015 model. Should I wait for a newer model - there's no particular rush...?)
Hi I have an electrician currently working in my kitchen. As a matter of interest is it ok where the BT phone line comes into the property (in the kitchen) to then run it next to various mains cables in the kitchen before it connects to the BT router? The phone cable is actually being concealed within the wall and ceiling and is running with and touching the mains cable in quite a few places. Is it likely to cause any electrical interference or effect streaming/sound quality? The electrician...
I downloaded a free album for Qobuz this afternoon. The artwork and 5 FLAC tracks needed downloading individually rather than as a folder. I assembled them in a top level folder call 'Simon Bolivar Orchestra of Venezuela', placed in that folder another one call 'Beethoven Symphony No9 into which i've save the artwork and tracks 1-5. Dropped the lot into my Unitiserve/Downloads folder (I'm using Mac OS 10.6.8). The result, viewed on the NAIM app UPNP source was an album with tracks 1-4 +...
What shall I do with it? I was thinking of enabling a Pi > Hugo > SN2, as I'll be on the lookout for a good deal on a used Hugo just so I can hear it. Does that make sense? Any recommendations for software -- Rune perhaps? Then how do I control playback from an iPhone? And decent but inexpensive cables? Should be a good 'winter project.'
I see a fair amount of comments around streaming through a macbook through say Tidal of which will not be great due to the sound card in a mac, fair enough I understand that. But if you were to say, stream Tidal, a master copy for example, through a digital output on the mac, into say a DAC V1 or NDAC, am I correct in thinking it wouldn't go through any conversion that could damage the audio quality from the mac itself, getting to the DAC in bit perfect condition, for example?
If I'm listening to a particular internet radio station how do I add it to the presets on the naim app? I'm using an iPad Pro. Thanks
I like the Naim app, but the font size is definitely too small for me (with my 47 years old eyes). Even on iPad, the text is hard to read. It would be great to have the choice between 2 or 3 text sizes !
HI guys I just wondered if anyone had used the Synology DS115J with a WD red 2TB drive?? Would that be a good fit to use with a MuSo and Asset UPnP? Thanks Mike
So after using Spotify Connect on my new NaimQB I've now come to the conclusion that the DNLA UPnP A/V protocol is rubbish. Things like not being able to fast forward/rewind mp3's is frankly a joke, DNLA seems like system designed in committee down to the lowest common denominators. The Naim app does an OK job given the limitations of the technology, but using Spotify recently i've been amazed by how rock solid and responsive everything feels. Things like skipping around files, fastward and...
Hi all. So i sold my old original uniti thinking that the streaming hardware (ie its 20p CPU) was a bit long in the tooth and may not be able to keep up with advances in streaming audio. I didnt fancy shelling out for an upgrade card and TBH that system was a bit overkill in my kitchen as the acoustics in the room are rubbish anyway - tiled floor and lots of glass. Sold it and also my kef LS50's. So plan was to replace it with a bog standard amp which i could plug my macbook pro into. How...
could anyone try to compare ssd drive inside the core vs hdd drive? because it is often said that ssd is better...but is it always better? and the price of ssd samsung pro 1to are around 6 times more expensive than 1to hdd drive... so i don't know if it is worse buying ssd internal drive for the core. thanks
Been playing around again wtih dbpoweramp with the Nimbie ripper box (which is really rather clever) Thinking about how to organise my cd library, which is incredibly diverse. I either have a hugely wide taste, or no taste at all -- take your pic thinking about metadata editing and what I need to be able to adjust. Album, Artist, Album title, track title, cover art, genre are must haves as an absolute skeletal set. But thinking about classical -- composer? conductor? performer? Part of a...
Creating playlists within the Naim app is really easy, however, my experience is that it's all too easy for these to get lost during re-installations or updates of the app. Assuming there's no simple, fool-proof method of preventing this (please tell me if so!), what other methods do you use to create playlsists visible / useable by the Naim app? Some time ago I created a test playlist on my media PC using Media Monkey (?). The playlist seems pretty permanent - I always see it in the Asset /...
Sorry in advance if these issues are addressed elsewhere. I've just set up a Naim Nait 5si and ND5 XS streamer. I've experienced a couple of issues with the Naim app, and I'm hoping someone can help. 1) When I download the Naim app (iPhone, iPad), there is an option to "setup new product" but when I choose that option, the ND5 XS is not listed as an option, just the Muso, Muso Qb, and Uniti Core. Since the ND5 is not listed, I skipped this and selected "Find my rooms." When I did that, it...
My current setup is: NAIM NAP 150x, NAIM NAC 152xs, Rega RS5 speakers, NAIM DAC V1, Mac mini. Muso Qb I have recently been considering the new Uniti Atom or a Unitiqute 2. Would love to know if the increase in cost for the new Atom over the Unitiqute 2 is a worthy investment. I am looking for a tidier/simpler setup. What are peoples experiences with the UQ2? edit: want to be able to continue to multi room with my Qb
I have some files on a NAS, I could either run MinimServer or Asset to serve them to a UPNP control point, or I could just point my control point directly to the network share. I know that UPNP is better , but I am not quite clear why. What are the advantages of serving the files using UPNP rather than just serving the files as files ?
I've spent several frustrating hours trying to make my US and NAS (Synology 412+) talk. Can anyone share tips to make this work. What I have done: Found US "Home Menu" on my web browser. Even this wasn't simple but didn't take too long. (For any other beginners out there, you have to find the MAC address of your US on the back panel. Then type into your browser "\\nssrvXXXX" where the XXXX = last 4 digits of your US's MAC address. Magically you're hooked up with your US via the WWW.) Created...
It is out today, sounds awesome with a short listening session.
Hi, Currently the Naim App for me is unresponsive on my Galaxy S7. I have an NDX, wired Ethernet and QNAP NAS. What I mean by this is that it takes a while to render each page in "folder View". I am now using Asset to order everything. Now although Asset doesn't up-stream the artwork to the parent folder in the same way Twonky does, I have noticed that it does take a while to render the artwork on each song. Once I press the song itself Asset and Naim app are fine. Ok, so this is what I have...
Are we any clearer when the 'Reconnecting' issue since the latest app update will be resolved? Cheers, G
Hi all, Before I send my NDS to Naim i wanted to "pick" your fine brains! My NDS recently "acquired" a wee problem in that it stops playing from Asset Vers 5. I have a Mac Mini with an external hard drive connected to it. In the last 4/5 days the NDS stops playing the music. I still have my old Logitech Transporter which uses Logitech Media server which doesn't seem to suffer the same problem i.e. connecting the external hard drive on the Mac Mini and playing music. I have rebooted (i'll...
