On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Art Blakey & Freddie Hubbard - Feel the wind.
- Bass – Leon Dorsey (tracks: 1 to 5), Lonnie Plaxico (tracks: 6, 7)
- Drums – Art Blakey
- Piano – Benny Green (tracks: 1 to 5), Mulgrew Miller (tracks: 6, 7)
- Tenor Saxophone – Javon Jackson
- Trumpet – Freddie Hubbard
Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill
My favourite seasonal album!
I have a really nice 16/48 recording of Chuckles' mega-gig in Hyde Park back in July. Let's listen to that...
The November 1940 recording of Mahler’s 1st. Another gem from Sony’s Masterworks Heritage CD series.
Ruthie Foster- The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster
Another Ewe recommendation I believe, and I know I have posted this recently. I have just got around to ripping the CD and I just love this album. If your bag is soulful, bluesy, Gospel then give this a go. If Al Green had a singing sister, then Ruthie would be that gal. Shades of Lizz Wright too. High praise indeed, and well deserved IMHO.
Thouroughly recommended.
Fred Hersch & Julian Lage - Free flying
Fred Hersch - piano ; Julian Lage - guitar
Now Playing..........
Anouar Brahem - Blue Maqams
Anouar Brahem (oud), Dave Holland (double bass), Jack DeJohnette (drums) and Django Bates (piano).
Streaming on NAS.......... Kicking off this Saturday morning with this fabulous quartet and they are sounding mighty fine!
have not listen to this one since 25 year !?
Terence Trent D'Arby
Sometimes, you've just got to, haven't you? On vinyl:
CD. Joseph Hayden - Tost-Quartette - Amadeus Quartett
Found this in a local antique dealer on vinyl, needed a jolly good clean but a couple of quid well spent - takes me back to my youth watching girls dancing round their handbags at the local disco! Sounds pretty good on an LP12 too:
(2001)
I fancied something from Jethro Tull but couldn't decide on an album, so I plumped for this decent sounding twenty track "Very Best of..." compilation.
Wife loves her albums and particularly this one so been asked to play it again.
Now Playing........
Django Bates' Beloved - The Study of Touch
Django Bates (piano), Petter Eldh (double bass) andPeter Bruun (drums).
Streaming on NAS........ enjoyed Django's piano playing on the Blue Maqams's album which prompted me to take 'The Study of Touch' out for a spin. A lovely album and the trio is sounding mighty sweet!

Continuing with the 80's theme is this all-time classic, now on vinyl and sounding every bit as awesome as it did when it debuted:
CD. Franz Schubert - Der Tod Und Das Mädchen - Amadeus Quartett
Genesis - Seconds out
