Less than a week to go
This thread should give the English members of the forum a chance to 'bang on' about how wonderful their team is before the All Blacks have to burst the bubble by soundly kicking England's bum
Any Australians on this forum??

I think she was from the west coast mate - they're all like that over there.

Subject: FW: Whinging Aussies
Time to rig an Aussie internet poll!
Follow the link below to rate England's performance on the Sydney Morning
Herald web site. Go to this link http://smh.com.au/polls/sport/form.html
http://smh.com.au/polls/sport/form.html and vote that England were "Scintillating",
then pass this message on to as many England rugby fans as you know.
The Aussie Pomie bashing of "dull, dull, dull" has reduced from 72% to 8% of
the votes already! If we can make Scintillating the top rating then it's
certainly going to confuse the Aussies (not difficult I'm sure.) Get voting
and pass it along.
More than 27,000 English have voted to fix the poll......Scintillating is
now 83 % - Democracy in action!
PissĀ² I always found the term Scotch-Brit rather confusing ? Second Row Fritz

These Aussies certainly know their rugby.
Unfortunately most Aussies don't know their Gregan's from their Larkham's where rugby is concerned.
Just before the tournament started a Kiwi journo wandered the streets of Melbourne with a film crew and a large glossy photo of George Gregan asking people "you recognize this guy?".
Most accurately spotted that he was a "sportsman" (he did have a Wallaby shirt on in the photo) but also had no freakin clue who he was...
"Is he a soccer player?" was a pretty typical response.
To think these people already have 2 World Cups and a crack at a third on the weekend!
Grrrrrrrrrr

Prediction time.
Low scoring nailbiter between two nervous and defensive teams. England shade it 12-9. Maybe.

Prediction:
Australia: 23
England: 24
I see it being a tight, forward dominated, game with Australia outscoring England on the try front but a certain Mr Wilkinson kicking the points (maybe a drop goal in there).
A nail-biter definitely.

Weather forecast for Sydney tonight is 80% chance of rain, 25km winds and around 16 degrees temp.
Sounds ideal for England

I'll stake my reputation as a rugby expert on the Wallybees winning tonight by a fairly convincing margin.

What a cracking match - fantastic effort from both teams, but the best team won on the night.

The most consistent defence in the competition won it!
If England had not have had so many knock-ons they would have won by a mile.
Wilko is da man.
Superb game - and high risk rugby from an England team - you saw it today with long line-outs, passing to the outside and brill position kicking.
And the best thig about it all is
WE ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS!

I only saw the second half but I must say I enjoyed it immensely. Kind of ironic that the most exciting game of the tournament was played by the two most dour defensive and tactical sides with the game decided by a number of crucial kicks.
Also I never cease to be amazed at Aussie sporting excellence -- they were completely overmatched in terms of talent and yet still comeback from the dead and very nearly pull it off against a much superior side for the second match in a row. If only the Wallaby Sporting Nation hadn't been even more arrogant, overbearing and generally mean spirited than even their usual not inconsiderable standards you'd almost feel sorry for them.
Many congratualations to Woodward and his team. They were clearly the best side in the tournament and deserved to win.

PS Yes, Dave, I feel an utter twat now. How unlike an English Rugby Union fan that your first thought in victory is to call someone a twat.

It must be true England crowned Champions in classic Test - Rugby World Cup 2003 - RugbyHeaven !
"The saying is don't get into an butt-kicking contest with a porcupine and last night Australia faced up to the spiny form of Jonny Wilkinson in a game ready-made for a kickfest, and paid the ultimate price."

Yes, Congratulations!
England were much better and presumably made all those mistakes in the second half so that everyone could write their Wilko headlines.

We are the champions of the World. I think I heard Freddie Mercury sing that about 19 times today and loved it every single time. I don't want to go through that again, next time win it in style, please.

Great match, but I remember now why they only hold the RWC once every four years - I really don't think I can go through that kind of stress again for some time, however anaesthetised by Guinness.
One question remains outstanding, was the ref bribed by the Aussies, or was it the organisers/TV companies to keep the tension up? Not to take anything away from a stonking Wallabies' second half performance, but some of his decisions were perverse to say the least.

Terrific final to end the tournament.
England have worked longer and harder for this trophy than any other team and that superb conditioning showed. It'll be interesting to see how competitive they remain once the expected crop of retirements happen. The forward pack will need a major re-build in time for France 2007.
I was hoping that the Wallabies would prevail but England always (apart from the first 15 mins or so) looked like they had enough up their sleeve to get home. Huge wraps to the Aussies though...the AB's wouldn't have even been able to force extra time.
My man of the match...Martin Johnson. If NZ had a skipper with that sort of grit and leadership abilities things would look a lot rosier for us in the future.
Anyway, congrats to all. Best team won for sure. I still have issues with the mentality behind the way they play but there is no arguing with the results.
We need a coach, wonder if Clive could be bribed??
Enjoy the victory

Myself and my boss have had a string of e-mails last week from our colleagues in Australia. They have been upping the ante on the banter. Monday will feature a conference call, a rendition of Swing Low.....and liberal helpngs of humble pie!!
Best of all those that know enough about the game saw all of the positive rugby come from England in extra time. They should have no complaints.
What a weekend!
