Music on Special Offer Thread?
Posted by: sjt on 14 December 2016
I am wondering if it would be legit to have a thread in here dedicated to music album downloads from legitimate retailers that are currently on special offer.
As an example I was just looking through the what are you listening to mega thread just now and came across the Melody Gardot record because someone was listening to it. I have wanted this for a while but it was always expensive (about 20 quid). On a whim I went over to a place I usually go to buy music downloads and by a blind stroke of luck it was on special offer at just over half price. Deluxe edition is cheaper than the standard edition! I bought it straight away.
So I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to posting albums that are on special offer at the moment with not-so-subtle hints as to where you could get them from, when the offer expires and how much is knocked off etc, so people could see instantly anything that was on special. It would certainly be a thread I would come back to often.
I did a search and couldn't find anything like this in the forum, but usually the searches on these forums are rubbish so this is not a guarantee!
There might need to be a few rules, e.g. the poster has no affiliation with the seller, only legitimate download shops / sites etc.
Just a thought still in the half-bakery...
Clash, Who, Queen, and plenty more besides. Some really good box sets available.

Add: Elton John, Chicago, Bee Gees, The Mamas & The Papas...
Ella Fitzgerald - The Complete Original Song Books (Decca). 178 tracks for £12.49.

If Richard is ok with the idea maybe he could edit the thread title and this becomes the thread.
I've finally took a look at Qobuz: the download of 'La fenice' by Keith Jarrett (to quote one randomly) is €17 in CD format (the 'HiRes' version is €24). On the ECM site, for €17 you can buy the CD. I still can't see the exact vantage or buying a ghost if you can have a physical object for the same price.
In this funny world we live in, savage capitalism is slowly cancelling private propriety... One never runs short of reasons to have a good laugh.

I'd love to buy some Ella, but I'm not sure I really need 178 tracks even for that bargain price!!

I agree pricing is all over the place at the moment. Some great deals on downloads then you find that a new release is cheaper on CD than the 16bit download.
Then along comes Juno who throw a huge spanner in the works.

I struggled initially having got there via the Bowie link, though with no interest in that, and found nothing of real interest doing some searches However after others mentioned some other things I hadn’t seen I went back, when I found what I had been doing wrong: entering next to the magnifying glassat the top doesn’t clear the previous search filters. Instead I selected ‘juno download’ from top menu bar which brought up a new page, then hit the magnifying glass without entering text. Therafter I used the search facility on the left of the page, that way being able to see and clear any previous search filters it had retained.
Quite a lot of compilations at a reduced price - though I’m still deciding which I want to get...

Buy it, you won't regret it!
I have the original CD Box sets of most of the Original Song Books and they are fantastic. At that price it is probably the biggest bargain I have ever seen.

I bought the Queen Platinum Collection, which is a triple CD box-set. Admittedly when I loaded it onto my NAS, I noticed I already had the CDs ripped, so apart from having alater remaster it was a bit of an abortive buy. I can't blame juno for my carelessness, it's a good buy at £12.49.

It's The Platinum Collection (2011 Remaster)
I surely would have bought the Ella complete songbooks for €17, but guess what? They don't allow their download service in my country.
There are ways to ‘fake’ your country of location as seen by the seller’s software so that an online system is not triggered to reject you. Some limitations are set by default and not for any legal reason, and if that is the case there is nothing illegal anout doing that. An alternative is to contact them to request freeing up the restriction, but in my experience that more often than not is met with either disinterest, referal to their ‘IT people’for consideration (maybe, one day), or a statement that it is fixed and there’s nothing they can do - though very occasionally they will see that they are potentially missing sales and act to fix promptly.

Thanks. The Platinum Collection is actually their three Greatest Hits CDs - and the CD version is available on Amazon at £12.99 (and I've no real interest in no.3).
I've been looking at one of the 40th Anniversary collections - essentially the first five albums plus five bonus CDs. This can be had for c.£35, or the individual CDs are £6 each.
[@mention:1566878603880520] - okay, you've convinced me!
If you go to Juno Downloads/Genre (in my case, jazz)/back catalogue/sort price high to low, and start paging down you'll find lots at £12.49, including this 100 track gem:

Another Juno boxset, Hawkwind - This is your Captain Speaking - £119 at the River, £12.49 on Juno.
Good one. Thank you. I have the Epoch Eclipse box set but this contains twice as much material and for that price, well, it would be rude not to.

Good catch thank you, Eoin.
Is this worth a shot?
