Hi everyone,
For the Naim family, conversation and discussion is everything (apart from the music of course!)
We love to encourage the debate and support the sharing of some extraordinary expertise across the Naim Forum, and it is one of the foundations of our world. We all participate in the community in different ways, and to varying degrees, but one thing is for sure, it is fascinating, informative, passionate, and loads of fun.
So, we want to make it even easier to do this, and we’re going to be moving to a new Forum software platform from Tuesday 15th January 2019. Yes, it’ll be a change, but we're not just changing things for the sake of it. It’s a decision that’s not been taken lightly, and is simply intended to make it easier for you all to continue to do what you do best – share your thoughts, frustrations, expertise and aspirations. For example, you’ll be able to access elements of the Forum more easily from more devices, but the fundamentals of the Forum will remain as they are today.
And it goes without saying, you’ll be able to access and search all old and current topics. It may take a couple of weeks as we continue preparing an archive of all existing Forum posts, but we will lose nothing as we make the transition.
One of the great features of the new Forum is the ability to run polls. We intend to use these intensively as a feedback tool to create a more dynamic community, shaped by the feedback you provide, but it also gives all Forum members the opportunity to run their own polls too. Other features include the ability to access the Forum through a mobile app and post images directly, making the Forum a much more visually exciting place too.
I’m sure some may be concerned by the move but we are doing this to help evolve and continue supporting the Naim Forum as the heart of our community. We look forward to feedback as the team move things across, and please bear with us as we do so, it’s a significant team effort. I’m sensitive to the fact that the change may not suit everyone straight away, but we’re genuinely doing it for the right reasons – to ensure the future of the Naim Forum as the heart of our community.
There is a link to FAQs relating to this HERE.
Thanks,
Charlie, Richard, and the Naim Forum team.

Richard,
Thank you for responding to the accessibility concerns I have, I hope that this can be clarified today but in my experience most web developers will wonder what you are talking about and will only pay lip service to the issue. I hope I am wrong this time.
I have given usable accessibility training to a number of large organisations and it always amazes me how, even when there are accessibility statements and when management make the right noises, the developers have limited knowledge and little experience in this area. In particular, there is a misconception about the difference between "usability" and "accessibility" … perhaps I can help here?
On another thread I have pointed out the total inaccessibility of Roon. Since the app and web site are the sole product and service that Roon provide, I am currently considering raising a legal action against them under the Equality Act, not to pick on Roon but rather to get suppliers to take this issue seriously. The Naim forum is not a product or service of Naim so there is not the same legal issue here but there is certainly a moral imperative that should be addressed.
I accept the issue about usernames hiding the "well-off" user but the geographic area and address are hidden aren't they?

Here’s hoping the new forum does indeed improve on the old, though it id a pity to have to start some threads afresh, losing continuity.
Meanwhile I think SJB’s point about user names is an important one, not least for continuity of identity. I note [@mention:1566878603942595]’s response indicating that names can’t be reserved. If that is unchangeable, an alternative approach might be to request upfront that no-one seek to assume the username of any former member, and have an appeals process in the unlikely/rare event of that happening, whereby the original ‘owner’ will be allowed to use the name and the interloper’s name changed. (Maybe limited to just the first three months of the forum?)
And I second the hope that the new platform will make it easier to post pictures, whether own or from t’internet, regardless of platform used.
It would also be good if the profanity filter could ignore certain sequences of letters otherwise spelling something objectionable when they are part of a longer, perfectly acceptable, word.
As for rankings, interesting free-for-all to come, perhaps - though I am far from sure that they have any real merit, especially as they can cause posting for the sake of it (and here I echo Mike-B’s observation on the music room.
It will be interesting to see if the search facility improves on Hoop-La’s, which does at a pinch, but has several limitations.
It would be good when responding to something and quoting the post to limit that to just the one level not nested previous quotes, at least by default. Hiwever I guess that is fixed by the forum software.

IB, regarding usernames, I think it would be good form for members to not take existing members usernames on purpose. Of course, there may be perfectly innocent situations where it does arise. Moderators can change someone's username and if any instance arises where an existing member fells that their username here has been taken on the new forum - as always, it's a conversation to be had, as and when needed.
Regarding quotes, it appears that the system has changed from what exists here, mainly to prevent easily quoting whole posts over an over.
I will test how the censor list deals with mention of a particular town in North Lincolnshire..
