What's It All About
Pat Metheny doing a great solo acoustic guitar job of covering some fine older hits and numbers that sound wonderful without getting either too bland or cheesy.
Sonny Rollins - at the Village Vanguard
I know I posted this yesterday, but it is just so good. It is just tenor sax, bass and drums, which means the musicians are having to play their socks off. Recorded live at the Village Vanguard on 3 November 1957, it just sounds so raw and immediate. I like the inter-song chat and introductions by Sonny too, which seem to add to the feeling of being there. I would go so far as to say that I think this deserves to be in every serious jazz lover's collection.
On 1970s UK vinyl. Magnificently bombastic orchestral soul.
This album was 50 years old yesterday, so it seems an ideal time to play it. This is the Japanese 'Led Zeppelin Analog Series' LP from 1992:
Died too soon...
A fine album, at first you think, oh the usual, but it’s better than usual...
