Wondering if anyone else is enjoying this latest reissue of the first and IMHO best album from Gomez? I was very pleased to receive the 4 CD box set for Father's day recently. My discovery of this band is intrinsically linked with my long standing appreciation of Naim gear. In 1999 I went to purchase a used Naim CDS player, and the seller utilised Bring it On as one of the demo discs. Having being working abroad in 1998 when Gomez broke onto the music scene I totally missed them somehow.

I ask this as I intend on buying all the music from my formative years - indie music i.e Inspiral Carpets, Stone Roses, Charlatans, Happy Mondays etc. but this ‘genre’ appears to have used poor recording studios. So what would be your take? What genres are higher fidelity- and perhaps why?

I am referring to soundtracks, specifically, as I quite liked Cocktail with our esteemed Cruise boy, although as it’s a soundtrack and someone’s compilation are they not taking originals, a bit like a freebie with a music magazine??

How do you listen to music - and is that the ‘right’ way? This as the subject of a thread was prompted by a post in the Is the ND555 now the pinnacle of sound? thread, which evolved into a discussion of live vs recorded music, and one response included the comment: “either you are engaged with the violinist or have no idea of how one should listen to music”. That got me thinking: how should one listen to music? Indeed, is there a “correct” way? How many ways are there? How does one learn?

I’m inclined to think yes. I saw Oasis documentary on TV and have to say they were and are louts, but figure many listeners see poetry in their lyrics - whereas i see that what they wrote is glib and financially motivated. Any thoughts?

Being a classical music "I don't know much about it but I know what I like" sort of bloke, I've been looking around on Tidal for versions of stuff I'm familiar with and building a library but I've hit a problem with one particular piece. Does anyone else find Tidal frustrating in terms of being able to categorise music in to different genres or whatever, I've lots of new albums that I've been introduced to here and all I can do is mark them as a favorite and then they get bundled in with everything else. If you create a playlist you can only view it by track and not by album, if you decide you want to delete an album from a playlist then you have to do it track by track which is tedious. It would be nice to be able to sort...

I have discovered the iTunes podcast and have only today first enjoyed the BBC Desert Island Discs. I feel as if I have crossed a vista from Red State America! I listened today on a long drive through the Delta and discovered Oasis. I further read that most of their recordings sound compressed and lo-fii. What do you Oasis fans recommend for a Naim-worthy listen? I will probably buy the CD or the vinyl, but I don't need more than one or two. Thanks for the recommendation.

As an adjunct to the "best frontman" thread currently running, I wonder who might be considered the band member most essential to the groups sound? Not necessarily the greatest musician, but rather the player with the instantly recognisable touch, which defines the band. Just wondered if anyone had actually stumped up the very expensive £50 - £55 for this reissue and if so was the quality worth it? I actually pre-orderd this on amazon for £30 sometime in 2017 and the order was cancelled by them soon afterward. I don't mind paying prices like this for something very rare or a specialist remaster but if this is just a bog standard reissue released in the 100,000's then it is a new level of p*** take inflicted on vinyl collectors.

It would be great if someone would curate a Tidal/Spotify playlist with this thread, to allow us all to appreciate the diversity of music others recommend..... And if there is one, please point me to it!

Thought this would merit its own thread. What is happening here that the CD is not available as a standard label produced one with the oreds burnt on demand? Is this because there is no record company involved or has there been a change in the way they are structured now? Is this just specific to Bentley Caldewell or will we see more of this going forward? I still buy physical media even though all I do is rip and stream, I have not really got involved in downloading as I like the physical...

Paul Weller turned 60 this week and has released a new download single called Aspects free at paulweller.com or to stream on the usual sites taken I believe from a new record out in September. Not everyones cup of tea I know but for over 40 years has written some great music IMO, he has always been around in my head and has brought me much pleasure so I'll always give him a plug and wish him a very happy birthday.

Not seen it before but it is now on CD after a long time. I don't think its been available before other than on vinyl. I think it's one of his best.
