Music Room
On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread. Last year's thread can be found here: https://forums.naimaudio.com/topic/what-are-you-listening-to-and-why-might-anyone-be-interested-vol-xiv
I am asked almost daily as to what music I listen to. Although my tastes vary and despite all the music that is on everyday however what I do like to look out for daily is a song/track that has particularly grabbed my attention. So, as this is a Bank...
I never find the long lists of purchased CDs and downloads inspire me much so here is a thread for people to pick out occasional highlights of their purchasing and maybe add a bit more detail if they want. I hope it means people will find new music they like. I've bought all of Alela Dianes's work but this is richer and seems more consistent than other albums. There is a bit of Laura Veirs or KD Lang in her style (although she is from Oregon not Canada) and early albums were more dusty...
I am wondering if it would be legit to have a thread in here dedicated to music album downloads from legitimate retailers that are currently on special offer. As an example I was just looking through the what are you listening to mega thread just now and came across the Melody Gardot record because someone was listening to it. I have wanted this for a while but it was always expensive (about 20 quid). On a whim I went over to a place I usually go to buy music downloads and by a blind stroke...
With more music being downloaded I thought it might be interesting to see what forum members are buying and from where. The news that HD Tracks are soon to open an online UK store means that more choice is going to be available to us. The...
after a suggestion,i have split up the old topic into this one and what was your last vinyl purchase.I hope it makes life easier.so to get things off and runningqueen--the highlander sound track
Oh Mercy is shipping soon on a double 45rpm AAA pressing done by the guys at MFSL. I just put a pre-order in! This is probably my favourite Dylan album. I have a few copies of it and they all sound amazing so I'm looking forward to what MFSL have managed to do...:-)
Classic 80’s pop album getting the deluxe treatment. Not sure of the appeal of this album amongst us Naim folk but for me a cracking 80’s album that still sounds great today! Check out super deluxe web sight for details Gary
Clydie King, whose earthy, gospel-rooted voice was heard on dozens of rock classics, including the Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice” and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama,” died on Monday at 75. Her friend Rudy Calvo confirmed the singer’s death to Rolling Stone. A cause of death was not immediately available. Along with Merry Clayton, Venetta Fields and Shirley Matthews, King was one of the most in-demand backup and session singers of her time. “I don’t remember all the people who I sung...
As the original post is no more I thought I would start a new one. Arrived today in the post:
I'll kick things off with this, out on 5th April. It's a "definitive" edition of New Order's debut album Movement, which originally came out in late 1981, to decidedly mixed reviews. However it's got better with age, and is a fascinating document of a band trying to find their way. Open up the Peter Saville-designed box (below) and you'll find the original album on vinyl and CD (not sure if it's a new master); but the real meat for fans comes in the shape of a CD of extras and a DVD. The CD...

One of the joys (for me) about Vinyl and CD ownership is the artwork and sleeve notes. Do Forum Members have a favourite "label" or recording artists whose covers are consistently distinctive and/or are works of art in their own right?
Right! Happy New Year everyone! So, has anyone attended a New Year's Concert in Vienna? :)
Just in case you missed it (I did) she has released her 25th Anivessary of the release of Solitude Standing recorded live at the Barbican. I love these songs and it’s very well recorded. I have the double double albums on vinyl cut at 45 but other versions must be out there. Highly recommended. Stu
Rumour is - out 9th November. 4LP set: 2-LP stereo remix of the album by Giles Martin, akin to his treatment of Pepper last year; plus two futher LPs of Esher demos. 3-CD set: as above. 6-CD deluxe set: as above, plus a further three CDs of jams, outtakes, demos etc. 50 or so tracks in all. But 'Carnival of Light' or the 27-minute 'Helter Skelter' aren't included. But there will a blu-ray with 24/96 stereo AND mono versions of the album, as well as a new 5.1 mix by Martin fils .
Maybe this belongs in the music room - but maybe here since this is about music auditioning. Just curious as to what kind of music folks use to audition new speakers/components etc. I just threw something together while at the dealers with not much thought. Be curious as to what music others use - and why. Here's my playlist: https://tidal.com/playlist/7be2c879-83ca-4264-881c-18ea505c88c0
listening to Radio Paradise a few days ago, I heard a track I rather liked called "Spinning Into Place" by Younger Brother. It's from an album called Vaccine so I downloaded it. Although it's from 2011 I've never heard of them or it but, I'm loving the whole album :-) Is anyone familiar with their music? My best description is a mix of Public Service Broadcasting and Chung King. (ish)
Many Vinyl-using forum contributors have highlighted the highly varied and rather inconsistent quality of many Classic Album Vinyl reissues. I’m thinking there should be value in starting a thread where folk can highlight the ones that they’ve found to be particularly good. I’d certainly find this enormously helpful. Hopefully, others might too.
"There is a special magic, an intimate vibrancy in a live performance which is impossible to recreate in the studio. I have often been asked to record live - a prospect which I have aspired to and dreaded at the same time - and I am delighted to...
Ok, I think there has been quite a lot of new and good music, by new and also stablished artists, and enough to suit all tastes this year but there were three albums which did standout for me. They were, in no particular order: Merrie Land by The Good, The Bad and The Queen, Heaven & Earth by Kwasi Washington and Collapse by Aphex Twin So, what albums put a smile on your face this year?
Will this K-pop madness amongst the junior troops never end? So help me, I have purchased tickets for Day6 at O2 Forum, Kentish Town, for January 2019... On the bright side, I'm also going to see Terry Riley and his son Gyan at the Union Chapel, London, in April - hurrah!
As a radio lover I'm always interested in new stations and new shows. So I'll kick off with a firm favourite. Naim Internet Radio 320kpbs I love the mix on this station especially the classical selections that I'd never normally listen too.
BBC4 TV 9pm, Friday 11th January. Guitar and bass to follow in the series. John.
